Constantly find yourself applying lotion to your face, hands, and neck throughout the day? Feel like the second you get out of the shower your skin is going to crack? Noticing dry flecks of dead skin practically everywhere? Wondering where all these sudden wrinkles, fine lines, and dark circles appeared from? If you’re experiencing any of these issues, you may have dry and/or dehydrated skin.
Dry and/or dehydrated skin issues are actually two different things, although one is often misdiagnosed for the other. Dry skin refers to skin that has less sebum producing glands. The skin needs sebum to produce lipids that protect it from external environmental factors like pollution or harsh weather. Symptoms of dry skin include seasonal dryness and discomfort, itchiness, redness, irritation, flaking, peeling, and in some cases, excess oil in spots.
Dehydrated skin, on the other hand, refers to skin that has an overall lack of water. If you are dehydrated, your skin isn’t getting enough water in its cells. Dehydration is completely different from dryness; in fact, you can have oily skin that is completely dehydrated. While dry skin is a skin condition, dehydrated skin is a skin issue. Symptoms of dehydrated skin include fine lines and wrinkles, skin that has lost its firmness and elasticity, dark hollow circles under the eyes, chapped lips, and a crepe-paper like texture around the eyes and mouth.
When attacking these two skin conditions at the root, you need a solid skincare system to help you get the job done. KULCBD specializes in natural, plant-based CBD skincare that boasts ingredients that are known moisture boosters, hydrators, and all-around skin nourishers. We use only the finest ingredients in our products, which are all third party lab tested, so you know exactly what’s in every product we make.
Today, we’ll look at how to handle skin that is dry, and skin that is dehydrated, appreciating that you may have one or both conditions. We’ll also talk about how cannabidiol, or “CBD,” can help both of these skin irritations naturally. In doing so, we will consider which skin products are best for both dry and dehydrated skin, and what you will find most beneficial in treating your skin with CBD based skin products.
If you’ve never heard of CBD skincare, or even CBD at all, here’s a little crash course about our favorite ingredient.
CBD is an all-natural, plant-based chemical compound found in the leaves of the hemp variety of the cannabis-sativa plant. It is a non-psychoactive compound and therefore does not produce any mind-altering effects.
CBD is most commonly extracted from the hemp plant in oil form, and can be obtained in one of three ways; CBD isolate oil, broad spectrum CBD oil, and full spectrum CBD oil. The products you use that contain CBD oil will all contain CBD oil in one of these forms. It’s important to know which form of CBD oil your products contain. CBD isolate is a low-end CBD oil which is easy to mass-produce and isn’t a great quality. As such, you’re better off sticking with CBD products that contain full or broad spectrum CBD oil.
CBD isolate oil contains only cannabidiol, nothing else. Broad spectrum CBD contains cannabidiol along with all other plant nutrients, flavonoids, terpenes, vitamins, minerals, and fibers the hemp plant has to offer except for THC. Full spectrum CBD oil contains all the ingredients of broad spectrum CBD, plus a trace amount (less than .3%) of THC. This trace amount is important because it allows full spectrum oil to produce the entourage effect, which is the name given to the effect of all the plant parts working synergistically to deliver maximum benefit to the user.
While this trace amount is powerful enough to produce the entourage effect, it does not produce a psychoactive effect on the user, and can be taken safely without mind-altering effects. Most CBD skincare users want a full spectrum oil in their products so that they can experience the entourage effect’s benefits on their skin.
CBD is quite literally the miracle skincare ingredient. Beneficial for all skin types, there’s a little something for everyone in a CBD skincare product. Dry skin can definitely benefit from the use of CBD skincare products.
Skin is dry because of the lack of sebum production. CBD is an excellent dry skin quencher. CBD has been referred to as the most essential moisture-balancing ingredient available from nature. Effective in treating oily skin and dry skin, CBD oil penetrates deeply and helps balance the appearance of skin oils. In other words, CBD can correct the appearance of both oily skin and dry skin in different areas of the face. This is why CBD is commonly referred to as a miracle product.
Because dry skin is sometimes irritated, the best product to use on it is a high quality CBD moisturizer. One of the best ways to combat dry skin is to up your intake of antioxidants. A great way to do this is to use a moisturizer that contains CBD, which is a virtual antioxidant powerhouse. Other great ingredients to look for in a moisturizer for dry skin plant botanicals. Plant botanicals are easily absorbed by the skin and help keep it moisturized longer.
Dry skin can also benefit from the use of a nighttime restorative moisturizer. Your skin does the vast majority of its own healing while you sleep. As such, it’s a great idea to arm it with super nourishing ingredients just before your head hits the pillow. A fabulous night time reparative moisturizer will have CBD oil and a combination of probiotics to keep your skin healthy so it can produce the right amount of its own oil necessary to keep your skin looking and feeling healthy and comfortable.
While dry skin is something you’ll likely have to continually treat, dehydrated skin is a skin issue that you can actually heal. The first step is obviously to increase your water intake. No matter what products you use, your dehydrated skin will simply not retain the moisture you externally apply to it if it hasn’t been healed from the inside out.
The second thing you can do is treat it to some premium CBD skincare. For starters, users with dehydrated skin should always exfoliate. Dead skin cells can build up and render any moisturizer you use on your skin basically useless. In order for your other products to be fully absorbed so that you reap the full benefits of each product, you must exfoliate the layer of dead skin cells off first. If you have dry skin, this may make you cringe, but trust that a CBD exfoliating cleanser will only remove the dead skin cells, not your skin’s natural oils.
The second thing you can do is invest in a high quality skin serum. A skin serum is a highly concentrated formula of ingredients that you use once or twice a day to supercharge your skin’s hydration levels. Aim for a skin serum that packs at least 500mg of high-quality, full-spectrum CBD oil, and be sure to apply it after you moisturize.
CBD skin serum has the ability to hydrate your skin down to its deepest levels. It also creates a sealed barrier between your skin and outside irritants. As such, it’s super important to apply it after you moisturize, otherwise the ingredients in the moisturizer may not make it into your skin due to the protective sealing factor of the serum.
It goes without saying that dehydrated skin also needs a moisturizer, but we’ll say it anyhow just to cover all the bases. The same moisturizer you use for dry skin is likely a great choice for dehydrated skin also. The same great plant botanicals, microalgae, and probiotics that help dry skin regulate sebum production can also help your dehydrated skin retain moisture and rehydrate.
It’s simple. You could go to a dermatologist and spend a lot of time and money on skincare products filled with chemicals that you’ve never heard of and aren’t quite sure about. While these products might work, we wonder how sustainable it is to continue using them long term.
A better, and more holistic option is to treat as many of our skin concerns as holistically as we can. Using nature to fix our skin problems naturally is an overall healthier way to approach dry and/or dehydrated skin. It can mean we don’t have to worry about long term effects topical and/or oral medications.
Dry skin is a skin condition you can improve effectively using high quality, premium CBD skincare. Dehydrated skin is a skin issue you can also improve with CBD skincare, incorporating some of the same products you might use to treat dry skin. Use of CBD skincare can work to help to alleviate these issues, leaving you with happy, hydrated, and perfectly balanced skin.
